Chamber Versions of March No. 2 “Democrazia” Now Available

For the first time, chamber arrangements for various wind ensembles of March No. 2 “Democracy,” Op. 166, have been published. You can find them in the “Archive” section.

This piece likely dates back to the years when Ponchielli conducted the Piacenza Band. Both the composition date and the premiere performance remain unknown.

The march is written in 6/8 time, giving it a playful and festive character. Its structure follows the typical format of parade marches: an opening section alternating two musical ideas in the pattern A (in E♭) – B (refrain, in B♭) – A; followed by a refrained Trio (in A♭) with a more lyrical character, and concluding with a return to the first section.
